This often follows on from counselling - it is a deeper from of therapy. You as a client decide if you want to progress further once you have acheived your counselling goals.

It can be a way of resolving difficult experiences for the past in order to live a freer, autonomus life in the present.

It offers us a path to understanding ourselves, recognizing our choices and resolving our deepest issues.

As an example, you may enter counselling to resolve work difficulties. As you gain tools to do this it may also lead you to insights into deeper issues and behaviour patterns that you could choose then to explore further in Psychotherapy.
